Starting Point: Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun

Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun are the three main gateways of the Char Dham Yatra. Char Dham pilgrims can start their journey from any of these three cities at their convenience. To go on the Char Dham Yatra, one can choose from buses, taxis, or helicopter services.

Route Breakdown:

  1. Haridwar/Rishikesh to Yamunotri (Approx. 220 km, via Barkot)
  • Travel by road to Janki Chatti, followed by a 6 km trek to reach Yamunotri Temple.
  1. Yamunotri to Gangotri (Approx. 230 km, via Uttarkashi)
  • Scenic road journey via Barkot, Uttarkashi, and Harsil before reaching Gangotri.
  1. Gangotri to Kedarnath (Approx. 250 km, via Guptkashi or Sonprayag)
  • Travel via Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Guptkashi. From Sonprayag, take a shared taxi to Gaurikund, followed by an 18 km trek or helicopter ride.
  1. Kedarnath to Badrinath (Approx. 230 km, via Joshimath)
  • Travel back to Guptkashi, then proceed via Rudraprayag and Joshimath to reach Badrinath.
  1. Badrinath to Rishikesh/Haridwar (Approx. 300 km)
  • The final leg of the journey passes through Joshimath, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag.

Best Time to Visit Char Dham Yatra 2025

The Char Dham Yatra usually begins between April/May and October/November, depending on weather conditions. The best time for Char Dham Yatra is May to June and September to October to avoid heavy rainfall and landslides.

Transport Options for Char Dham Yatra

  1. By Road: Pilgrims can take buses and taxis from Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun.

2. By Helicopter: To save time and for a comfortable journey, helicopter services can also be availed. For this, pilgrims have to register in advance.
